Leading change in schools is difficult

Schools – like any other type of organisation – rarely work according to the meticulous plans that leaders have for them. There are good reasons for this. The emotional and psychological dynamics at play in these highly complex systems are mostly hidden away under the surface of organisational life, unseen, unspoken and unthought. And yet this is what drives the behaviour, forms the culture and influences the decisions in your school. Trying to lead or manage change without an understanding of these dynamics is very difficult.
